This year we are going to our best friends for Thanksgiving. We take turns going to each other’s homes for the holiday. I will be bringing up a few side dishes. One of the dishes that I am bringing is fresh cranberry sauce which I love. This one has a little bit of a twist, I added some citrus and cinnamon.
Orange Cranberry Sauce
2 (12 oz) pkgs fresh cranberries
zest of 1 orange
3 cinnamon sticks
2 cups orange juice
1/2 – 1 cup water
2 cups brown sugar (if you like it really sweet add 1/4-1/2 cup more)
In a large saucepan combine the cranberries, orange zest, cinnamon sticks, juice and sugar. Add the water to cover the mixture. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat to a simmer for about 1 hour. Stirring occasionally. Add more sugar, if needed. Let cool and then pour into a bowl and refrigerate until using. Can be made in advance.
