I was wondering what to make for dinner tonight. I have been having a lot of chicken lately and I wanted some beef. So I decided on skirt steak, which to me is one of the best steaks out there. It’s very flavorful and delicious because I always marinate it in my “special” marinade that I have been making since I have been married which is a very long time! This is literally the easiest and best marinade that you will ever try. Forget about the bottled stuff that will cost you more money, my Easiest Steak Marinade is not only so easy, (literally like 2 minutes), it’s also very cheap and the best part, it will make your food taste fantastic! Even though I call it my Easiest Steak Marinade, it’s definitely not only for steak as I have used it many times for chicken and even salmon. I wouldn’t recommend using it for a soft, more delicate white fish such as flounder or sole, but for a hearty fish like salmon, it’s perfectly fine.
Not only is this marinade so flavorful, it will make any tough meat so tender. When you marinate a tough cut of meat, it breaks down the fibers in the muscle. Just make sure to marinate it for several hours. Some delicious, but tough cuts of meat are flank steak and skirt steak. If you are using this for chicken and salmon, you don’t need to marinate it as long, a couple hours would be fine for chicken and salmon. - ½ cup less sodium soy sauce
- 2 tbsp. rice vinegar
- ¼ cup water
- 1-2 tbsp. dark sesame oil
- 1 tbsp. honey
- 2-3 tbsp. garlic powder (I like lots of it)
- ½ tsp. ground ginger
- Add all ingredients to a glass mixing bowl and stir. Place steak into a large ziploc bag and pour over the steak and marinate for at least 4 hours, preferably 12 hours to overnight. Every few hours turn the bag over so all parts of the meat get coated. See how easy it is!
P.S. A couple of perfect side dishes that will go along with your steak, are my Horseradish Mustard Potato Salad and my Horseradish Mustard Macaroni Salad. You will love both of them so grab these recipes as well!
