I was recently sent a cookbook titled “Easy Recipes for the Hurry Home Cook, Healthy Indian Vegetarian Cooking” by Shubhra Ramineni for review. When Shubhra got in touch with me about reviewing her new book, I was quite excited as I have her first book “Entice with Spice” which is also excellent. The book that I will be reviewing is all vegetarian recipes.
Shubhra gets personal in her book showing us pictures of her husband, daughter and mother which I find to be a very nice touch. Her book is not only about recipes but lots of good tips as well. For example, she shares with us different types of cooking tools and explains what each one does, as well as cutting methods and how to grate, chop and peel. This book is definitely for the beginner all the way to the experienced cook. She also goes into lengthy detail about different spices and basic ingredients used in Indian cuisine.
This book is just not only vegetables; there are 7 chapters which include Chutneys and Pickles, Appetizers and Snacks, and all the way to Drinks and Desserts! Many of her recipes are Vegan and Gluten Free. What I also like is that she includes pictures of each recipe. It’s always nice to see what the dish is supposed to look like. You don’t need a whole bunch of spices for her recipes either, as she uses only a few and still captures such delicious flavors. Some of the recipes that you will find in this book are: Sautéed Potatoes with Cumin, Yellow Squash Curry and Black Bean Curry all of which I made and are quite delicious!
