The Liebster Award is an award passed around small blogs as a way to put a bit of spotlight on the blogs and make the blogger feel like people are actually interested and paying attention to what they do (which can be hard sometimes!). When someone nominates you for this award they pose 11 questions that need to be answered in the form of a blog post. This is a great way for everyone in the blogging community to get to know each other as well as a way for readers to find out a little more about the person behind the posts.
Thanks so much Laurie of Food is Love for nominating me, I am truly honored! I have also nominated 5 blogs as well which you can see at the bottom of this post.
1. Why did you become a blogger?
I actually started blogging after a friend of mine made her blog. I thought it would be a fun thing to do and I never thought it would take off as it has.
2. What is your most popular recipe?
My most popular recipe is my Old Fashioned Lentil Soup with over 1,800 page views since the beginning of December, 2013 when I wrote that post.
3. What is your favorite Family Meal to prepare?
Since I absolutely love shrimp, I would say any sort of shrimp recipe or even a fish recipe as well.
4. How young were you when you started cooking?
I was around 16 or 17 when I first started to cook. I remember I cooked dinner for my mom with a friend of mine and we made Stuffed Shells, salad and some sort of Yogurt Pie for dessert. My mom was thrilled when she came home from work as she didn’t have to cook and the meal was quite delicious.
5. Did someone teach you how to cook?
No not really. I would watch my mother and grandmother cook when I was younger but they didn’t actually teach me, I just observed and asked questions. I also watched many cooking shows and learned by doing. I am totally self-taught. I love to experiment with new recipes and will try something at least once. I also collect cookbooks as I have close to 100.
6. What is one of your Cooking Fails?
Cooking pasta is probably something that I don’t do that well. Sometimes I overcook it or under cook it for some reason.
7. If you could cook for anyone living or passed who would it be? What would you cook?
Probably my grandmother as she was an excellent cook and baker. I think I would make one of my soups as my grandma made excellent soups and I would want to show her how delicious mine are as well.
8. Other than blogging what do you do in your Free Time?
I like to hang out with family and friends and go out to restaurants, movies, museums and things like that. I love English and Scottish history during the 15th and 16th centuries. Genealogy is a big passion of mine as I have been doing it since I was 18 and can trace one branch of my family back to my great-great-great grandfather.
9. What is one skill in the kitchen you wish you had?
Baking! I really would love to bake but maybe it’s better that I don’t as then I would be eating all of the finished product…LOL!!
10. What makes your heart race?
The colors of fresh fruits and vegetables. I absolutely love the produce aisle in the supermarket as the colors are so vibrant and alive. I cook with fresh vegetables most of the time as I believe they are the best for us. My motto is “Eat Foods with Lots of Colors”
